AI4Media's 1st Open Call ran from 1 September 2021 to 1 December 2021 (17h00, CET).
This was a great opportunity to deliver innovation in the AI and media sectors, with the support of up to €50.000 per project.

The Open Call aims to engage entrepreneurs, companies (e.g., SMEs, mid-caps) and researchers that regularly develop and integrate applied research in the field of AI, to develop new research and applications for AI, and contribute to the enrichment of the available pool of research and technological tools.
The 1st Open Call targeted two types of projects, divided into tracks:
Targets academia and researchers working in AI/ media to increase the value of the AI4Media ecosystem by developing and integrating new research in AI media domains.
Projects funded under the Research track will run for 12 months and receive up to €50.000 each.
Targets entrepreneurs, and companies (micro-SMEs, SMEs, mid-caps) to develop innovative AI applications for the media sector by building on the research coming out of AI4Media or by adopting AI solutions from other sectors to the media sector.
Projects funded under the Application track will run for 9 months and receive up to €50.000 each.
Through this open call, 10 projects were selected (5 from each track) which have addressed one of the following research or application-driven challenges.
C1-Rt. Bio-inspired deep learning
C2-Rt. Human-centred interactive explainable AI
C3-Rt. Combining deep learning-based computer vision and classic path-planning/ control for autonomous UAC cinematography tasks
C4-Rt. Innovative solutions for fake news detection in line with fundamental rights and the developing EU regulations
C5-At. Evidence Collection in Digital Media Authentication
C6-At. Navigating multi perspectivity in media heritage collections
C7-At. Leveraging the power of media archives through Artificial Intelligence

Depending on the track to which a proposal has been submitted, awarded projects will be implemented over a period of 9 (Application) or 12 (Research) months, divided into 3 sprints. Interim evaluations will be carried out at the end of each sprint.

The AI4Media – Open Call #1 was managed using the F6S platform.

Submissions to the AI4Media – Open Call #1 ran from 1 September 2021 to 1 December 2021 (17h00 CET, Brussels time). The dates for the different phases are presented below but are subject to change if any modifications occur in the project’s schedule.
